Lash Shedding

Lash shedding refers to eyelashes falling out more often than usual or appearing thinner, weaker, uneven, or sparse over time. While some natural lash shedding is normal, recurring or noticeable eyelash loss may point to irritation around the lash follicles. In Demodex blepharitis, lash shedding may appear with collarettes, cylindrical dandruff, lash debris, itchy eyelids, redness, burning, dry eye symptoms, crusting, lid margin inflammation, or chronic lash-line discomfort. Because Demodex mites live near the eyelash follicles, ongoing buildup and inflammation may disrupt the normal lash environment and make eyelashes more prone to shedding. This section explains how lash shedding may connect with Demodex-related eyelid concerns and what visible lash-line clues to look for.
