Meibography

Meibography is an imaging method used by eye care professionals to view the meibomian glands inside the eyelids. These glands help release oils that support the tear film and protect against evaporative dry eye. When the glands become blocked, shortened, damaged, or reduced over time, symptoms may include dry eye, burning, grittiness, watery eyes, blurred vision, light sensitivity, and recurring lid margin irritation. In Demodex blepharitis, lash-line buildup, collarettes, cylindrical dandruff, eyelid inflammation, and meibomian gland dysfunction may all contribute to an unhealthy eyelid environment. This section explains how meibography relates to MGD, tear film dysfunction, dry eye symptoms, and Demodex-associated eyelid concerns.
